CVT History

Over Twenty Years of Serving the Educational Community

science

CVT was established in 1984 as Central Valley Schools Health & Welfare Trust. It was originally created through the combined efforts of school superintendents and representatives of both the California Teachers Association (CTA) and the California School Employees Association (CSEA).

The trust pools the resources of school districts to create a larger group of participants, effectively lowering healthcare premiums and providing quality benefits. The concept creates a more stable environment for contract negotiations by providing several options so each district can best balance cost with quality in providing benefits packages for teachers and school employees, as well as retirees.

Today, CVT is the largest self-funded public schools trust in the state, with more than 193 district members covering the entire state of California. With over 20 years experience in serving the unique needs of the education community, we are among the most respected providers of quality healthcare products for school teachers and staff.
