You still have time to get a free flu shot through February

Did you know that the flu season actually peaks in February? Every year the flu sends more than 200,000 individuals to the hospital. Flu and pneumonia are the eighth leading causes of death in the U.S. with 90 percent of these deaths being people over 65. If you're over 50, it is highly recommended that you get an annual flu shot, which will reduce your risk of getting the flu by 70%.

CVT will continue to offer its PPO plan members free flu shots through February 29, 2012. To receive your flu shot, visit any CVS Pharmacy and present your membership card. You don't have to pay a co-pay. Members and their eligible dependents ages 9 years and older may participate. To find a store near you visit www.cvs.com/flu.

It is impossible to catch the flu from the shot. However, some people should not get vaccinated. If you have a severe allergy to eggs, the shot could trigger a dangerous reaction. If you have a concern, talk with your doctor about whether you should get a flu shot or not.
