At California’s Valued Trust (CVT) we are proud of our service to the education community in California and pleased to have you as an active member of our more than 158,000 participants. CVT serves districts and chapters throughout the entire state of California, both rural and urban regions. We provide benefits to classified, certificated, management/confidential employees and trustees.

1. Who Do I call

From time to time you may wish to call and ask questions about your benefits, options and other matters. Who do you call for what type of information? This section should help you find the right source.

District Office

You should contact your District office for questions about:

  • Payroll deductions
  • Plan coverage beginning or ending dates
  • Change of address or phone number
  • Enrolling dependents (family member, spouse, domestic partner, newborn, etc.)
  • Removing a dependent (due to divorce, an over-age, etc.)
  • Dependent status change (getting married, death in the family, etc.)

Your district office will forward any required paperwork to CVT, when applicable.)

  • Eligibility questions
  • Replace or request an additional ID card
  • Retiree health benefit coverage questions
  • COBRA coverage, (continuing benefit coverage through CVT, after terminating employment)
  • Insurance carrier phone numbers, not listed on your insurance card(s)

CVT’s toll-free line 1-800-288-9870 is answered Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.  CVT operates without a “phone tree” and every call is answered by a receptionist and forwarded to the requested person or member services representative assigned to your district or chapter.  An answering machine is also available to leave a message after normal business hours.  Members may also email CVT anytime memberservices@cvtrust.org.

Contacting Your Carrier

CVT provides the best-of-the-best in healthcare. Being a member of CVT brings you many different partners who are leading carriers in the healthcare industry. You may see many different products and provider names associated with your benefits, but it’s important to note they are your partners through CVT.

You should contact your carrier (Anthem Blue Cross, HealthComp for Blue Shield of California or Kaiser Permanente) if you have questions about the following:

  • Explanation of benefits (EOB)
  • Deductibles
  • Out of Pocket Maximums
  • Claims status
  • Billing or balance billing by a provider service
  • Coordination of benefits (COB)
  • Prior authorization is required

CVS/caremark

  • Prescription Transfers
  • Prior authorizations for medications
  • Specialty medications

Contacting Anthem Blue Cross for PPO or HMO Members

Anthem supports CVT members with a dedicated unit, staffed with 17 associates who are well versed about CVT benefit programs.  They are available to answer questions regarding your benefits, claims, provider billings and authorizations. They can be reached at (800) 234-4333.

Contacting HealthComp for Blue Shield of California PPO Members

HealthComp is the third-party administrator for CVT’s Blue Shield PPO plans. They provide members access to medical benefit information, claim status, Coordination of Benefits (COB) and Explanation of Benefits (EOB). HealthComp can be reached at (800) 442-7247.

Contacting CVS/caremark for PPO Plan Members

CVS/caremark supports CVT PPO members (Anthem or Blue Shield) with their prescription drug coverage by calling (888) 354-6390 or visit caremark.com.

Contacting Blue Shield of California for HMO Members

Blue Shield supports CVT members with an HMO plan by calling (855) 256-9404 or by visiting blueshieldca.com.

Contacting Kaiser Permanente for HMO Members

Kaiser Permanente supports CVT members on an HMO plan by calling (800) 234-4333 or visiting the my.kp.org/cvt/.

2. Membership Information

Change of Address

To ensure the receipt of important documents regarding your benefits, please contact your district office and provide your updated contact information. The district office will then forward the changes to the CVT office. In addition to informing the district you may send your changes in writing to our office by mail, fax, or email to changeofaddress@cvtrust.org. Please include your name, ID number, new address, phone number (if applicable) and signature of the subscriber.

Do we have your Email?

We often send special added value services via email. If you have not provided CVT with your email you can call Member Services at 800-288-9870 and provide your email address. Only our authorized partners such as MDLIVE are allowed to send you information. They send special coupons and incentives that many members appreciate.

3. MyCVT

Want a simpler and more convenient way to access your benefits? CVT's online benefit management system - MyCVT - can provide you with 24/7 access to your CVT benefits. Once registered, you can view your personal CVT plan information, dependent coverage, connect with your specific carriers to view claim details including out-of-pocket expenses, even print a PPO plan ID card and more!

If your district has chosen to use MyCVT for enrollment purposes, you may can also save a lot of time and make it convenient for yourself by using MyCVT for benefit enrollment and document sharing through this single online service between you, your district and CVT. 8. Added Value Services

CVT offers a number of free or low-cost programs to eligible members. These programs include:

Beacon Health Options Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - EAP is provided at no cost to all CVT subscribers with medical coverage. Employees and their family members can receive free, confidential assistance to help with personal and professional goals, managing daily stress and developing fulfilling relationships. ConsumerMedical, Your Medical Ally - ConsumerMedical provides free, expert medical guidance for any condition.  As Your Medical Ally, ConsumerMedical offers confidential, one-on-one support to help you make informed decisions about medical care and treatment.  This valuable benefits is provided at no cost to all active and non-Medicare retiree members and their eligible dependents who have coverage through a CVT PPO plan.  For more information, click here ConsumerMedical.

Fit for Life Wellbeing Program - This is a CVT initiative designed to provide our members with healthy lifestyle opportunities. CVT, in partnership with our vendors, provide health and wellness services including district-wide, on-site biometric health screenings, flu shot clinics and seminars on various topics. MDLIVE® - As a PPO plan member, you can use MDLIVE® for around-the clock on-demand access to a national network of board certified doctors who can diagnose, recommend treatment, and prescribe medication (if appropriate). With MDLIVE®, you can speak to a doctor anytime, anywhere through secure video or on the phone. Access MDLIVE for $0 copay any time for most Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield PPO plans and Sutter Health | Aetna PPO. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield HDHP and Sutter Health | Aetna HSA Plans are subject to deductible/coinsurance.

MDLIVE® Behavioral Health Services - MDLIVE®'s caring counselors and psychiatrists are always ready to listen. CVT offers PPO members (non-Medicare) MDLIVE® Behavioral Health, virtual behavioral health services that give you access to caring, compassionate counselors, and psychiatrists by appointment via secure video. MDLIVE® Behavioral Health provides affordable, confidential virtual treatment for a variety of behavioral health needs such as depression, anxiety, trauma and loss, substance use and more.  In most cases, Behavioral Health consultation fees are the same as your physician office visit. Payment will be collected at the time of your consultation. For your convenience, MDLIVE® will accept debit cards and most major credit cards.
