November is Diabetes Awareness Month

November 21, 2025

During this month, we take time to raise awareness, offer support, and encourage understanding for the millions of people living with diabetes and those who may be at risk. Recognizing the early signs can make a real difference in managing your health or supporting someone you care about.

7 Early Signs of Diabetes and Why They Matter

  1. Fatigue and Tiredness When your body isn’t using insulin effectively, glucose can’t reach your cells for energy, leaving you feeling unusually tired or drained.
  2. Urinating More Often High blood sugar levels can cause your kidneys to work harder to remove excess glucose. This may lead to more frequent trips to the bathroom, especially at night.
  3. Frequent Thirst and Dry Mouth Because your body is losing more fluids, you may feel constantly thirsty or notice dryness in your mouth. Staying hydrated helps, but addressing the underlying cause is most important.
  4. Blurred Vision Changes in your body’s fluid balance can affect your eyes, causing temporary blurred vision. If you notice this, it’s a good idea to reach out to your primary care physician.
  5. Itchy or Dry Skin Dehydration and changes in circulation can leave your skin feeling dry or irritated. Moisturizing can help, but it’s also a signal to look deeper at what your body may be telling you.
  6. Increased Hunger Even when you eat, your body might not be getting the energy it needs if insulin levels are off. This can leave you feeling hungrier than usual.
  7. Unintentional Weight Loss When your body can’t use glucose for energy, it may start breaking down fat and muscle instead, leading to weight loss without any changes to your diet.

If you recognize any of these signs, it’s important to check in with your primary care physician. Early awareness and care can make a big difference in living a healthy, full life with diabetes.
